First Touch Wall Work
The best players in the world grew up playing against walls. This is the exact 15-minute wall routine coaches assign as homework: hundreds of touches, both feet, receiving surfaces a game will never give you time to practice.
Ages
U8 to adult
Players
1 (individual homework)
Time
15 minutes
Focus
First touch
Equipment
- A wall or rebounder
- 1 ball
Setup
Any solid wall and 3 yards of space. Mark a target zone on the wall with tape or chalk if possible.
How it works
- 2 minutes: pass right foot, control right foot. Then left-left.
- 2 minutes: pass right, control left, pass left, control right (alternating).
- 3 minutes: strike firmer balls, control with thigh or chest, then pass on the second touch.
- 3 minutes: one-touch passing, both feet, keep a streak count.
- 5 minutes: throw the ball against the wall and control the rebound out of the air, any surface.
Coaching points
- Touch the ball out of your feet at an angle, like you are escaping a defender.
- The wall never gives a bad pass. If your touch is bad, it is your touch.
- Log your one-touch streak record and try to beat it every session.
Progression
Stand closer to the wall to shrink your reaction time, or juggle the rebound twice before controlling.
