1. Get moving · 8 minutes

Mark a 20-yard channel. Put players in two loose lines with room between them.

  1. Jog down and back, then add high knees, hip rotations and side shuffles.
  2. Use controlled lunges and straight-leg movements, focusing on balance.
  3. Finish with three progressive runs. Increase effort gradually, then take a short water break.

Coach’s cue: Good movement before fast movement. Give players room to work at their own pace.

2. Prepare before receiving · 12 minutes

Use triangles 12 yards apart with short queues at each station.

  1. Begin with two touches and follow every pass.
  2. Reverse direction after 3 minutes.
  3. Add a passive defender inside the triangle for the final repetitions.

Coach’s cue: See the next option before the ball reaches you.

3. Make the angle early · 15 minutes

Split into groups of five with one defender in each square.

  1. Play four 3-minute rounds with brief feedback and water breaks.
  2. Move along the side of the square to keep passing lanes open.
  3. Reduce the square slightly only if the group is keeping the ball comfortably.

Coach’s cue: Your movement gives the ball carrier time.

4. Turn possession into a chance · 21 minutes

Set up two small games, with spare players rotating often.

  1. Play 3-minute rounds and ask players to notice the unguarded goal.
  2. Try a two-touch round only with groups who can keep control.
  3. Remove the touch limit for the final game and compare their decisions.

Coach’s cue: Keep it when you need to; go forward when you can.

5. Reset and reflect · 4 minutes

Bring the group to the side of the field with their water bottles.

  1. Walk together and let everyone catch their breath.
  2. Ask the group: What did you notice before your best first touch?
  3. Name one thing the team did well and one thing to carry into the next session. Collect the equipment together.

Coach’s cue: Let players answer first. Keep the final message short and useful.

Keep the whole team in the loop.

Put practice on the calendar and check attendance before you set up.
